Abernethy Highland Games

The venue of the Abernethy Highland Games, also known as the Friendly Games, is Nethy Bridge.  Doors open at 8:30am and the Highland Dancing competitions start at 10am and 10:30am.  Other competitions to watch are the Solo Piping and Drumming, Field and Track and of course the traditional Heavy events!  Fairground attractions, souvenir stands and food stalls will be available for a day full of buzz and excitement at one of the biggest social highlights in this part of Scotland.  The day ends at approximately 5pm.

Travelling to the Games

The Strathspey Railway have again teamed up with the Abernethy Highland Games to welcome visitors on board and on the Games field for a great day out celebrating this historic event. Train departure for the Games is at 10:30am and 12:30pm from Aviemore station. On your arrival at Broomhill station, a free bus service will be available to take you from Broomhill to the Games Field at Nethy Bridge village, where passengers are dropped off just by the old railway station.

Coming back from the Games

The minibuses will be available at the drop off point before each train departure to return people to Broomhill station for a leisurely travel back to Aviemore (or Boat of Garten). Trains from the Games leave Broomhill station at 13:35, 15:50 and 17:30.  The last service of the day – the 17:30 train is an extra DMU service specially organised to take visitors back from the Games after the event closes at 5pm.
